Josh Glover introduced Subversion, the revision-control system that is billed as "a compelling replacement for CVS", and took us through common tasks. He demonstrated how Subversion can help the coder, lead developer, and normal user.
- Gentoo's Portage
Martin Parm gave a talk about Gentoo Linux's package system, Portage, with special focus on how to make your own packages. The talk began with a short introduction to Portage including its advantages and disadvantages. Then he outlined how to make your own packages by showing several step by step examples. He also talked about how to avoid some of the most common pitfalls and gotchas and gave some tips on debugging your own packages.
